For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the LORD, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope. Jeremiah 29:11
Dear Trinity Community and Friends:
Hal Donaldson was 23 years old, fresh out of college and found himself in Calcutta, India, where he was ghost writing a book for a couple feeding hungry children. They told him there was someone they wanted him to interview. A friend who was helping them in their endeavor. It was Mother Teresa.
“She was so humble,” Donaldson says. After the interview, Mother Teresa had a question for him: “What are you doing to help the poor?” Says Donaldson: “It wasn’t accusative. She was just asking me a simple and fair question.” He told her the truth. He was young and had just gotten his degree in journalism. He wasn’t focused on helping others. With a smile on her face, Mother Teresa said, “Everyone can do something.”
This story personifies the theme for our multi-year capital and stewardship campaign for Mission and Ministry – “A Future With Hope.” Mother Teresa’s response to Donaldson is at the core of the mission and ministry of Trinity UMC. Our vision has always been about growing in faith and serving together in mission. It is our DNA. Even in the midst of a pandemic, in a divided culture, in the face of fear and anxiety, we have kept growing in faith…together!
Our online worship, small groups, bible studies, and prayer ministry have helped us grow in faith and love. Our music ministry, along with the creativity of our ministry with children and youth, inspire us to be deeply rooted in Christ. Our continuing relationship with Community Consolidated School District 59, our bold witness as a Reconciling Congregation, and our expanding community outreach through PADS, Summer Suppers, MI Casa Su Casa, English Language lessons and more — these are all ways our congregation is living out what it means to truly love our neighbors. In all that we do, online, in person, and in outreach to and with our neighbors, we strive to be a Center for Community, with Christ at the Center! That is our Vision! That is our Mission! Each and every one of us are blessed with gifts to be ministers for that purpose!
Thank you! Thank you for all that you give of yourselves and your gifts of every kind that make our community possible. Thank you for being an important part of this forward moving, living community rooted in Christ.
As we look to the ways we are rooted and bearing fruit in Christ, we invite you to grow in faith and generosity by making a stewardship commitment to the ministry of Trinity UMC for 2024.
Many Trinity members and friends have already made generous gifts to our capital campaign. This capital campaign funds needed capital improvements and also supports expanded staff and program budgets. These capital campaign pledges are being fulfilled over three years (2022 – 2024). If you have not yet participated, we invite you to consider a capital campaign gift for 2024. Your stewardship and capital commitments help Trinity bring about A Future With Hope.
Praise be to God for you, for your gifts, for all you bring to our ministry, and to Christ’s ministry through Trinity United Methodist Church!
Every Blessing,
Pastor Wendy
