“The story of Holy Week is not exactly family-friendly, but that doesn’t mean we can skip the part about Jesus’ journey to the cross when sharing our faith with children. ‘I think it’s important for parents [and grandparents] to share the whole story of Holy Week…Often children are in worship on Palm Sunday and then not again until Easter Sunday and they miss out on these important stories of our faith.’”
For many families, spring break lands on top of Holy Week this year. If you won’t be worshiping with Trinity, you might discover some Holy Moments on-the-go by taking your family on a Holy Week Nature Walk. Share the story of Jesus’ last week, from the triumphant entry to the Last Supper, cross, and empty tomb. Go outside and use all your senses to find the things listed above. Lent is a time for introspection and self-reflection; an opportunity to make adjustments in our lives that open space for God. “Opening space” doesn’t mean adding more activities to an already packed day, or disrupting family routines that are working well!
