April Mission: PADS
Trinity’s April Mission Moment: PADS, Feeding the Unhoused, and Summer Suppers…Trinity’s Ongoing Mission to Serve the Homeless

Journeys: The Road Home is a community-based nonprofit serving Chicago’s North and Northwest suburbs. Located in Palatine, the HOPE Center offers free services such as a food pantry, laundry and showers, mail and transportation assistance, and case management, including housing, job, mental health, healthcare, and legal support.
Trinity has been committed to serving the homeless for over 30 years, adapting through COVID-19 and beyond. While we no longer house guests overnight, we continue to provide support:
– During COVID, we donated funds and meals twice a month to Journey’s hotel shelter program.
– Last summer, we joined the Summer Suppers program, offering monthly meals in Trinity Hall.
– This past winter, we prepared meals monthly for guests at Journey’s Interim Housing program at the HOPE Center, feeding 40–50 guests each time.

The Center’s main focus is addressing hunger and poverty with sustainable agriculture and leadership training. The original goals and objectives of the project were to increase protein, minerals and vitamins in the diet to reduce high infant mortality and low life expectancy of the Lunda People. It was also to help the Lunda People to increase family incomes by becoming more effective and efficient farmers. Food4Kids
Families in school districts 59 and 214 live adjacent to our church building and in the surrounding neighborhoods of Mount Prospect, Elk Grove Village, and Des Plaines. Families’ greatest needs are gift cards that can be purchased through the Trinity Scrip program. These cards provide a flexible means of purchasing essential items including food and personal care products.
Mi Casa Su Casa
Mi Casa Su Casa provides local families with basic household items. The families may be refugees, low-income, homeless, or some combination. School districts help with donations of clothing and food in a lot of situations, but simply cannot facilitate finding and delivering large items on a regular basis. Local families have received furniture (beds, tables/chairs, couches, dressers, etc.), cookware (pots, pans, dishes, knives, baking equipment, etc.), bedding, towels, toiletries, cleaning supplies and other essentials.
Good Samaritan Fund
Our pastor serves as trustee of this fund which supports congregants and community members in need of urgent or immediate assistance within limits. This primarily takes the form of providing gas gift cards, or gift cards for food, diapers, etc. at a Jewel / Osco or Target type store. This fund aims to provide emergency aid in a manner that fosters independence rather than dependency, which is consistent with the mission of Trinity.
